The first thing you should do when writing a history essay is to study the question very attentively and get its meaning. It may seem too obvious, but still most history essays are off the point.
Thesis is almost the main thing in your history essay. Usually, you may come across this term in other kinds of essays, but when it comes to history essay it is a real thesis. It should not be the assumption of your idea, or opinion or argument. It should be your thesis.
Compare and contrast essays are the other big essay types in academic writing. These essays will follow a specific question and are fairly easy to complete. There are several ways to write this type of essay. The most important thing to remember is structure. Many wonderful essays fall victim to the woes of bad structure, making any ingenuity to fall by the wayside.
The function of an argumentative essay is to show that your assertion (opinion, theory, hypothesis) about some phenomenon or phenomena is correct or more truthful than others'. The art of argumentation is not an easy skill to acquire. Many people might think that if one simply has an opinion, one can argue it successfully, and these folks are always surprised when others do not agree with them because their logic seems so correct.
Cause-and-effect writing gives reasons and explanations for events, conditions, or behavior. It answers the need most of us have to understand the world around us. When planning a cause-and-effect essay, begin by listing the event or condition you want to address. Then brainstorm to generate ideas about either its causes or its effects. Do additional research on your topic if necessary.
Analyze the subject. First, it will help you to define the topic and outline. Regardless the scope of the assigned topic, point out:
The subject (general sphere of investigation).
The limiting words (help you to narrow the subject).
Direction words (guide your actions)
