The Master's thesis is designed as practice for the PhD thesis. The essential requirement of a Master's thesis is that it literally demonstrate mastery: that you have fully understood the state of the art in your subfield and that you are capable of operating at that level. The hardest part is figuring out how to cut your problem down to a solvable size while keeping it big enough to be interesting. Choosing a topic is a gradual process, not a discrete event, and will continue up to the moment you declare the thesis finished. Actually solving the problem is often easy in comparison to figuring out what exactly it is.
Master??™s thesis work involves a period of individual scholarship and research, usually uninterrupted by other studies, though concurrent enrollment in required coursework is commonly the case for ME and possible for MSc. Typically a master's thesis is completed within one or two years of full-time study, or the part-time equivalent, but the time requirements and restrictions vary from subject to subject. Usually the student is assigned a Senior Supervisor to guide him/her through the whole process of thesis writing.
Every six months master's students should submit written process reports of their master's thesis to the HOD/HOS through their Senior Supervisor.

It is desirable to define the time that you are ready to commit to your project and to draw a conventional deadline.
